Patients Who Struggle to Maintain Fluid Intake In the weeks leading up to bariatric surgery, purchase a sipper bottle, and get into the drinking routine that you will need to adhere to after surgery. It is best to get the hang of it BEFORE surgery, as it is only going to be harder after surgery if you haven't gotten into the habit already. You don't want to get dehydrated because after surgery you will find it difficult to be able to drink quickly to rehydrate yourself once you fall behind. Bariatric patients should try to drink at least 1.5 LITRES of water per day in addition to their dietary intake. Optifast and Optislim Both of these are forms of a "Very Low Calorie Diet" (VLCD). You may be asked to go onto Optifast or Optislim prior to undergoing surgery in order to decrease fatty liver, lose additional weight pre-op which may allow for safer surgery.
